The customer requirement
An industrial equipment customer evaluated the K-TEK-A420TP-KP-FN-DT-DWP stainless steel keyboard with integrated touchpad for a panel-mounted installation. The keyboard met the input and durability requirements, but the equipment had a small cable-routing hole. A factory-fitted USB connector and ferrite core could not pass through the available opening.
The engineering question was therefore not simply which connector to use. The cable configuration also had to match the installation method and the operating environment.
Two cable configurations
Option 1: specialized blue cable for explosion-protected equipment
For projects intended for hazardous or explosion-protected environments, including certain mining applications, Newdesy can configure the keyboard with a professional blue cable and flying leads for connection inside the customer's equipment.
- Red - VCC
- Green - D+
- White - D-
- Black - GND
The four separated conductors allow the integrator to route the cable through the restricted opening and complete the connection inside the host equipment.
Project note: This is a cable and integration option, not a blanket claim that every keyboard configuration or completed machine is explosion-proof. The required area classification, cable specification, complete system design and supporting certification must be reviewed for each project.
Option 2: standard silver USB cable for general industrial use
For non-hazardous environments, the same keyboard can be supplied with a standard silver USB cable. When the connector or ferrite core is too large for the cable-routing hole, Newdesy can remove the USB plug and anti-interference ferrite core before shipment while retaining the same four USB conductors.
The customer can then pass the cable through the small opening and complete the final connection and assembly inside the equipment. Cable length, shielding, termination and host-side connection requirements are confirmed during engineering review.
The project outcome
By selecting the cable configuration before production, the customer could integrate the keyboard without enlarging the equipment opening or cutting a finished cable on site. The same rugged keyboard platform can therefore support both general industrial installations and carefully reviewed hazardous-area equipment projects.
